Transformations Project Concept: To encourage creative thinking through the transformation of commonplace objects into new and unusual structures. Design students created illustrations which depict the following mechanisms for creative thinking- Simplify, Animate, Hybridize, Distort, and Alter Scale and Purpose.
Simplify
Description: Omit, remove parts, or stylize the object. Convert the object into geometric shapes.
Animate
Description: Bring inanimate objects to life. Give the object human or animal qualities.
Hybridize
Description: Cross-link the object with an unrelated item. Answer the question "What do you get when you cross a _____________ with the object.?"
Distort
Description: Twist out of a natural, normal, or original shape or condition.
Alter Scale and Purpose
Description: Dramatically change the proportion, ratio, relative size or dimensions. Assign the object a new function.
